9th Grade Syllabus
Welcome to 9th grade English! It is a pleasure to be your English teacher and I look forward to working with you this year.
We will divide the year into three main units: Persuasion, Exposition and Literary Analysis. Within those units we will be reading a number of books: Of Mice and Men, Romeo and Juliet, and The Odyssey to name a few. We will also be reading various short stories and poetry.
We will also be preparing for the Periodic Assessments. We will be working on grammar and essay writing.
All work will be done in a Readers/Writers Notebook. The book will be collected every two weeks. Although I will provide you with the book, you will need to bring it every day. If it is ever lost, you are responsible for replacing it.
Grading Policy
Your final grades will be a combination of homework, finals and class projects. The grading scale is as follows:
90 – 100% = A
80 – 89% = B
70 – 79% = C
60 – 69% = D
0 - 59% = F
Rules
Students will be expected to obey all class, school and district rules. Failure to do so will result in punishments including meetings with parents, visits to the Dean’s Office and/or suspension.
I can be reached at [email protected] or at the school phone number: 323-846-4700.
Sincerely,
Sean Doherty
